We are patiently waiting! Wondering every moment if this is the moment Willow's labor will begin. Watching every move she makes, waiting for the first signs of labor; the panting, the pacing, the digging. We so badly miss having puppies and are so looking forward to our new litter. Today Willow decided that she prefers to have her puppies in a dirty old tree trunk outside in our yard rather than the clean, cozy, indoor, custom built whelping box we have set up for her, lined with soft, clean fluffy blankets.
Despite our every effort to keep her indoors she darts out every chance she gets, running toward her precious dirty tree trunk, all dug out, and filled with wood chips. Silly mama! But hey, if you're a mom, you know, the most important part of labor is keeping mama comfortable and happy. So if its a tree trunk she wants, its a tree trunk she gets. Don't worry, we are constantly watching and ready to catch each baby be for they hit the dirt. We have a giant pile of clean towels ready by our door to dry puppies and take them to their clean whelping box. Willow's new mama basket is ready for her, filled with an assortment of items such as calcium/magnesium/potassium, and evening primrose oil. We realize more and more with each litter and goodbye to each puppy how much we love what we do. Every aspect of raising dogs and puppies keeps our life exciting and enjoyable. Ammanah, my 13=yr old daughter, is a Jr. photographer (yes she is available for hire). Ammanah LOVES LOVES LOVES perfecting her photography skills with our puppies. She spends hours each day with each puppy learning the personality differences, setting up background scenes, searching for props, and training puppies to stay still and pose for pictures. After a full day of picture taking Ammanah sacrifices her sleep to sneak on the computer to edit her already perfect pictures and can't wait until morning to show them off to me. Amariah, my 3 yr old daughter, becomes instant bff with every puppy immediately when they are born. She plays with them every second of her waking day and snuggles with them when shes asleep. I love meeting and interacting with new people. I love developing new relationships with every one of our new Beni k9 families. We realize so much when puppies are gone how much we miss having puppies and we cant wait until one of our girls comes into heat, we cant wait until its time to mate her, we count down the days on the calendar. Today is our big day! Willows first due date! she was mated 3 times so she has 3 due dates, today, Sunday, and Tuesday. So every moment we eagerly watch and wait for our new puppies. New life, tiny squeaky cries, the unmistakable and precious smell of puppy breath, itsy bitsy babies sleeping all curled up in our arms. We know that in 8 weeks they will leave us forever, but we know that they will bring endless joy to their new families and after a season we will have more new babies to love and shape for more new amazing families... |
